Project Album - My Seahorse Aquarium - 44 Gallons

May 19, 2007

Now that I am living in a place that has room for a bigger aquarium, I decided to go ahead this year and do yet another all-female seahorse tank. I ordered the tank, stand and canopy from Pacific Reef in Anaheim on May 15, 2007 and it got to the house yesterday.

My 30 gallon tank had an unfortunate demise in 2003, probably due to an overload of two many fish being added at one time. For this seahorse aquarium, I will be doing more documentation than the first time and keeping very strict records and photographs. There are some things I definitely wish I had recorded from the previous time around and I thought I had done a pretty good job of it back then!

Setting up the 44 Gallon tank

(Above) Photograph of the stand, tank and canopy with dimensions and information about the lighting ballast in the photo above. The tank is called a 44T (tall).

The aquarium on the stand and with the canopy placed on it is 6 feet and 2 inches tall. I am standing next to it with my shoes off and my height is 5 feet and 2 inches tall.

The aquarium is made of glass. It's very heavy. By suggestion from my future husband, he recommended that the stand height be 36 inches tall. The person that sold it to us said it was available at a standard 30 inches or custom 36.

I am glad that we went with the 36 inch height for the stand because now that the glass aquarium is also higher than standard height, seeing all of the things that go on in there will be just incredible, with so much of it closer to eye-level and not having to look down or bend so much to see all of the wonders that go on at the bottom of the tank.

Would like to see the photo album of all of the inhabitants of my reef tank, and how everything has been progressing?
