Project Album - My Mandala Tattoo (Page 2)

On August 25th I went in to Future Tattoo to begin the process of having color done. But before doing that actually, I had colored in the mandala on the computer and mocked up a photoshopped image of what the colors might look like if they were actually tattooed on me.

The image shown here is very shrunken but hopefully you will get the idea.

I wanted to have bright colors, and include colors of the rainbow representing the chakras.

I photoshopped the mandala image onto an existing photo of my back and it turned out to look like the photo below which I was really pleased with.

Of course, I knew that the mock-up wouldn't look anything like the actual ink, but the colors I picked seemed to have a nice flow and were contrasting enough to set the peacock tattoo apart from the mandala.

So I gave him the image that I colored up along with the photo on the left to use as an example.

My artist, Blake, did the first stage of color on August 25th. The session started just after noon and he finished by 1:30pm.

This photo was taken on the morning of August 31, 2006 is a real photo of how the coloring is turning out after the first session. There is still a bit of peeling in this photo as it is not fully healed yet.

I expect it to be fully healed in about 3 more days.

This next stage of the coloring was done on September 8, 2006. The idea is to color the dark blue outer edges of the mandala. The session after this it is expected that Blake will be doing the gradient blues inside.

Incidentally, as the weather got colder it pushed my next appointment back, as Blake called to inform me that he was under the weather so we rescheduled for another time.

The very next appointment I was ill with a cold and by the time I got well...before I knew it we were in the rush of the holidays so I had put off getting the work done until the beginning of the next year.

So my next appointment with Blake that I was actually able to make it to was scheduled for January 13, 2007.

I went to go see my tattoo artist, Blake, on Saturday afternoon (January 13th at noon) to get the work finished up. Spent most of the week meditating and hydrating and stuff.

I got in at 12pm and was out by 1pm. He's fast! I was expecting to be there for 2 1/2 hours.

The color that was just done still looks "wet" and Blake said that it would even out with the rest of the color when it was fully healed, and for the time being would appear darker than what was previously done.

I'm unsure at this point whether anything will need touching up. I'll have to wait until everything is healed up and the color is evened out to make that determination.

So...as far as I know this is the last of the sessions and I will post one last picture of the mandala with it all healed up and finished!
